Hexigten Banner is located at the east of Inner Mongolia and northwest of Chifeng City and at the junction of Inner Mongolian Plateau and southern mountains of the Great Xing’an Mountains and Qilaotu Mountain of a branch of Yanshan (E 116°21′-118°26′, N42°23′-44°22′), with a length of 207 miles from south to north, a width of 170 miles from east to west, and a total area of 20.673 thousand square meters. It governs nine towns, two sumus, two development zones, two subdistrict offices, and 134 gachas (villages and residents committee), with a total population of 247 thousand among which 47 thousand are non-agricultural population. It is a habitant of 10 nationalities, Mongolian, Han, Hui, Man, Zhuang, Korean, and Daur, with the Mongolian nationality as the main, Han nationality as the most.
